JCPD launches “A Safer 26 in ’24” initiative
The Johnson City Police Department announced a multi-jurisdictional initiative to improve safety on Interstate 26. Officials announced the “A Safer 26 in ’24” initiative that will include partnerships with law enforcement agencies throughout the region. Daily traffic flow is estimated at 70,000 vehicles travelling through Johnson City, per day, on I-26, with 779 crashes since 2022. One crucial part of the campaign will have more law enforcement patrols on I-26. Multiple agencies located along the I-26 corridor have signed on to participate. The public is asked to help in the initiative by watching speeds and limiting distractions.
