Youngkin signs order banning cell phones in Virginia classrooms beginning in 2025
Governor Glenn Youngkin signs an executive order that allows public school systems to establish policies that keep cell phones out of classrooms and enact them on January 1st next year.
The governor’s statement said teachers need spaces that harbor healthier and more focused students, noting a recent study that shows juveniles are spending more than 4 hours a day on social media, doubling the risk for poor mental health.
Local school boards must have those policies developed by August 15th and final guidance from the Virginia Department of Education is expected in September.
