8% Hotel/motel and short term rental tax now in effect in Washington Co. TN
Washington County, Tennessee commissioners announced at a meeting Monday that a recently-passed hotel/motel and short-term rentals tax is now in effect. Washington County commissioners said the tax levies were set in order to “balance out” the tax rate. Now, the combined hotel/motel tax rate is 8%. The date of effectiveness was initially intended for July, but Mayor Joe Grandy gave commissioners a 30-day extension so area motels, hotels, and Airbnb-type rentals could prepare for the change. All funds collected are required to go towards tourism development.
