Bristol VA/TN discuss redevelopment of West State Street
Tuesday, the Bristol, Virginia and Bristol, Tennessee city councils held a joint meeting to discuss the redevelopment of West State Street. During the meeting, they heard a presentation about different options for re-developing the right of way on West State Street. The current right of way is 56 to 60 feet with one option to keep it that way and redevelop within those parameters. Other options were to expand the right of way to 65 or 75 feet. Expanding the right of way can help with extending bike lanes, adding more crosswalks, widening sidewalks, widening vehicle lanes and adding more parking. The Cities may have to work with property owners or purchase some properties if the right of way is expanded. Officials say congestion and safety are key factors in redeveloping the area. No timeline has been set for the project.
