Woman Gets Five And A Half Years For Killing Niece In 2016

A Church Hill woman has been sentenced to five and a half years in prison for the shooting death of her niece in 2016. 45 year old Beth Ann Mathis was originally charged with first degree murder, but a jury convicted her of voluntary manslaughter in the death of 25 year old Brittany Murray after an ongoing argument. Mathis must serve 30 percent of her sentence before she is eligible for parole. Mathis remains free on her previous bond pendng a hearing on her motion for a new trial, which will be held November first.
