New Details Released in Officer Involved Shooting
New details have been released in Friday’s officer involved shooting that killed a man in Jonesborough. Police responded to a disturbance at Country Inn & Suites. When officers arrived on scene they found Mark Harrell who was the subject of an ongoing meth investigation. When confronted by officers. Harrell said, “No I ain’t going back to prison.” He then raised a machete to his own throat and threatened to cut himself. He began moving away from officers who pursued him down Jackson Boulevard. Officers attempted to use beanbag rounds to defuse the situation unsuccessfully. He then began cutting his throat with the machete saying he was going to make one of the officers shoot him. In the end Harrell charged one of the deputies machete and that was when he fired three shots, striking and killing him.
