Carter County Man Who Made Fake Drowning Report Now Charged with Violating Sex Offender Laws
A Carter County man, who reportedly made a 911 call about a drowning child last week, has been charged with violating sex offender laws.
33-year-old Landon Garland was served two warrants for violating sex offender laws for failure to report and register his status as a sex offender.
The Carter County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed Garland was the man that made the 911 call on February 13 about a child being swept away in the Watauga River.
Sheriff Dexter Lunceford called off the search the following day as no missing children reports had been made. Garland also told investigators that he had been mistaken when speaking to investigators that night,
No charges have been filed at this time for the call. Garland was taken to the Carter County jail where he is being held on a $12,000 bond.
